Mary S. Peake started a school near the fortress, within the present grounds of Hampton University. Her enrollment grew from six to more than fifty students in a matter of days.

“Peake was a dedicated instructor, creating a school for adults in the evenings and continuing to teach despite failing health, even when was she was bedridden. She died of tuberculosis in February 1862.

Her school was one of the first of its kind and served as a model for a number of other schools that taught African Americans throughout the South in Union-occupied territory.

Today, the city of Hampton honors Peake with a school, a street, and a park.”  Source

1) Teach children about CASH is KING and DEBT is a NEGATIVE to your NET WORTH

2) Teach children that NET WORTH=ASSETS-LIABILITIES

3) Teach children than an ASSET has to be exchangeable with cash and is not worn on your _______.

4) Train children HOW to set goals-short term and long term

5) Train children HOW to sacrifice to achieve GOALS. Trade off play time with ME time. Nurture your gifts and talents TODAY so they can be called upon TOMORROW.

6) Train children HOW to love and embrace self and live within a SELF ASCRIBED DEFINITION of love, acceptance and value

7) Expose children to adults who live wholesome, fulfilled and productive lives giving back and generously providing opportunities for others because THEY ARE FREE to DO so!

FREEDOM can be a mindset that enables a person to DIE with a smile on his or her face because they KNOW that their purpose on earth has been ACHIEVED AND PASSED ALONG to another generation to be FREE.

Multnomah County’s school districts are doing several things already to level the playing field.

Here at Faubion, a K-8 school in the Portland District, kids can stay late for after-school activities–some academic, some just fun–through a county-funded enrichment program.

These kids are learning to play chess, spilling supersized plastic pieces out onto felt chessboards. Down the hall another group’s getting help with homework.

But the report released Wednesday suggests that while programs like this are important, kids must be reached before first grade. “

In addition, a child that is told negative things before leaving the house learns to think negative outside of the house. A child that thinks negative tends to DO negative things. Train Up a Child!

Annoyed to the point of taking specific action.

We looked at our two beautiful and intelligent offspring and made a choice.

A vendor selling HBCU gear told us that he did not sell HBCU gear to fit children because, “Lady, maybe you haven’t noticed…kids DON’T carry wallets!”

He then walked out of my face after explaining that is why he only sold shirts to fit adults.

We could have agreed with his assessment of the African American community.

My husband and I thought, “What if Walt Disney felt that away about kids?”

Surely, we must be able to look out and see the RESULTS in our community and agree SOMETHING is not WORKING in our favor.

Rather than criticize, we decided to ORGANIZE.

So.

HBCU kidz, Inc. was born on February 1, 2006.
